St. Mother Teresa High is excited to announce that the SMT SKI CLUB is back!  This activity is open to all students in Grades 7-12.  We will be going to Camp Fortune Ski Hill in Chelsea, QC on Thursdays after school for consecutive 5 outings starting on Thursday, February 2, 2023.   Excursion forms can be picked up from Mrs. Hussey in Room 204.  Completed forms must be returned  to Room 204 and full payment made on School Cash Online by Dec. 1st, 2022.  Don't miss out on this fun activity...space is limited.  First-come, first-served for a spot on the bus.

HIGH SCHOOL

7/8 ANNOUNCEMENTS

We are excited to announce that the Intermediate Beyond Hate Alliance will be starting up again at SMT. Our mission is to create a safe and inclusive environment for all, reglardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. The first meeting will be Tuesday October 25th at lunch in room 331. All are welcome. See Ms. Jones for questions!

Recess in the Learning Commons is back! 40 passes are available for sign out each day before school at the main desk in the Learning Commons. If you have any questions, please see Ms. Podsadowska or Ms. Bell-Dagenais.

Do you like playing soccer during lunch recess?

Sign up for soccer intramurals!

It’s the same game just played with teams of your choice. The games will be played 7 v.s 7 during lunch recess, hosted by the athletic councils. Sign ups are during lunch. There are two different teams. Competitive and Rec. Before signing up you must have your team, at least 3 girls and 3 guys plus a goalie. If you don’t have a team, put your name on the list and we will put you on a team. Make sure you have a team name! Hope to see you there!


Calling all adventurers! Grade 7 & 8 students who are interested in exploring the dark and exciting world of Dungeons & Dragons are invited to join the Titans Enclave, our new D&D Club! Experience is not necessary and you don't need anything to play. Students may sign up using the QR Codes in the 7/8 wing or see Mr. Lyons in Rm. 337 for more information. Raise your swords and answer the call!

STUDENT SERVICES


The Dual Credit program is a high school and Algonquin College initiative where high school students are enrolled in apprenticeship training and/or a college course.  Upon successful completion of the college learning requirements, students earn credits towards both their high school diploma and their college education.  It is also a great opportunity to gain a better understanding of the field of study as well as a college experience.  This program is recommended for students in grade 11 or 12.  Dual Credit Applications will be accepted from October 31st – November 18th. The Knowledge Society (TKS) is looking to support Ottawa's most curious and ambitious high school students with unparalleled access to resources, opportunities and a network to help them succeed. To celebrate all of Ottawa young innovators, TKS is giving away a $2000 Award for a teen working on an impact or technology-driven project. The winning student may choose to accept a full-ride scholarship for the program if they wish to join.

HS Leadership Camp: Leadership Camp is back! High School Leadership Camp 2022 will be taking place this September after our two year COVID hiatus. It will take place at Red Pine Camp for 3 days and 2 nights from September 19-21, 2022. Students will take part in team building, leadership and recreational activities that are led by Gr. 12 students and supervised by St. Mother Teresa staff.

Current grade 8-10 students can apply for camp starting Tuesday, May 24th, by signing up outside of Student Services or the High School Art room (room 201). Deadline to apply is Tuesday May 31st.  If you have any questions please see Mrs. Byrne in Student Services or Mrs. Villeneuve in room 201. 


  Civics & Citizenship and Career Studies come alive as students travel to Ottawa, Toronto, Niagara Falls and New York City! Students learn the role Canada plays in an increasingly interconnected global community and start building their own personal definition of “citizenship.” From Parliament to the United Nations, students see how their career choice can allow them to have a meaningful impact on the world.Students will write campaign speeches, enact dramatizations about Canadian civics, explore the field of photojournalism, and get firsthand experience in financial literacy. Nights are filled with fun events that include a dance party in Niagara Falls and a Broadway show in NYC!

FALL 2022 Dual Credit Opportunities at Algonquin College are now listed on the Office of Academic Partnership's website.

 

Applications are now being accepted until Friday, June 3rd at 11:59PM for the equal consideration period. Applications will be processed on a first come, first serve basis. The Dual Credit Coordinator is currently working on updating the course descriptions which should be available very soon.  All of the Dual Credit courses for Fall 2022 will be offered on campus.
